It is hard to believe that you can learn SEO when you don't even know what SEO means, isn't it? But you CAN.

"SEO" means "search engine optimization". When you do a search in Google, a whole long list of results turns up. Those at the top of the list have strong search engine optimization. The search engines like that site and that page. Using SEO techniques, you can put yourself at the top of that list.

Basically, SEO says that you need to put your keyword in some very strategic locations so that the search engines can find it and index it.

There is a handy dandy free ebook that I use for my SEO activity: Let's Go Fishing. The book is free, and you can remove yourself from the ezine mailing list any time you want. So it is a win-win.

There is one more step to SEO that most gurus won't tell you about. It is the "long tail" of network marketing. It is fine when someone searches on "health", but honestly neither your site nor mine will ever reach the top ranks for that keyword. There are just too many very, very strong sites already out there that rank for the keyword "health". So we don't even try. What we DO try to rank well for are the hundreds and thousands of searches done on all the "long tail" keywords, like "natural health vitamin", "vitamin D and health".

It is not that difficult to rank well for hundreds of long tail keywords. This is a skill that most people can learn fairly quickly.

So, yes, you CAN indeed by an SEO specialist. Soon. And do it very, very well.

According to the Virginia-based Center for Women's Business Research, the number of women-owned businesses increased 32 percent from 2002 to 2008. During the same period, revenues generated by those businesses increased 48 percent and employment by such firms went up 27 percent.

Being a nameless, faceless entity is all too common online. In fact, it is all too common in all sales, even in-store sales. MONEY BACK GUARANTEE! Really, really read those guarantees. It is probably so restrictive that even the saintliest among us would not qualify. The "guarantee" has nothing to do with your success or desire. It has everything to do with how accessible this person is to your local court house. Have you noticed Google stock lately? It is on a very nice climb. In the past month it has gone up about 30%. That is a major jump, especially when so many other stocks have been stomped by the lousy economy.

It is all about attraction marketing. Stop chasing your leads, let them chase you instead.

How can you do this?

First of all, profile yourself as an important player in MLM network marketing. But, make sure you have the knowledge to back this claim up. If the first person that contacts you asks you a simple question you cannot answer, you will have trouble convincing that person to join your downline.

Secondly, be honest. If you mention any amount of profits, make sure you mention it is possible to make that kind of profit, but not guaranteed. Tell them the truth, that their profits will greatly depend on how much time and effort they are willing to put into MLM networking.

And third, tell them they might not be good enough to join your team. You only want to work with people who are willing to put in the necessary energy, who are driven to succeed. You basically do not want them to join your downline if they are not good enough.

I didn't really believe that last one until a friend told me about his strategy for firing clients. It is true. He fires clients who take up too much time and energy. His theory is that time and energy should focus on good clients, not on lousy ones. He defines "lousy" as someone who complains too much, demand too much, is too irritable or simply alientates his staff. He's really got a point. If a person won't make a good client/team member, why hire them in the first place? Think about it. It really makes sense.

I got something you can't refuse: a really cool analysis of The Godfather and business. It speaks about honor. About family. About respect. These are all things we envisioned for our businesses. Somewhere along the way, we may have lost some of it. The Godfather didn't lose his core values.

1. Respect Other People

The very first scene of the movie shows Bonasera, an Italian who had his daughter attacked by some boys, asking Don Corleone for revenge. Bonasera explained that he didn’t seek for Don Corleone earlier because he didn’t want to get into trouble. Here is how Don Corleone replied:

I understand. You found paradise in America, had a good trade, made a good living. The police protected you; and there were courts of law. And you didn’t need a friend like me. But uh, now you come to me and you say — “Don Corleone give me justice.” — But you don’t ask with respect. You don’t offer friendship. You don’t even think to call me Godfather. Instead, you come into my house on the day my daughter is to be married, and you… ask me to do murder, for money.

Bonasera basically wanted to hire Don Corleone’s services in exchange for money. But that is not how things work inside the Mafia. You don’t hire the Godfather, you earn his protection by showing him respect and loyalty along many years.

Calling him Godfather and kissing his hand, in fact, is one of the most basic signs of that respect, and Bonasera didn’t even want to do that.

Want an example of how this relates to Internet marketing? I get dozens of emails every week asking me to check out a website or online service. Most of the times, however, the person won’t even include my name in the email salutation, revealing that he probably did not even take the time to read my site, or is mass emailing a lot of people hoping to get some free exposure for his stuff.

The people that start their emails with “Hi Daniel,” on the other hand, already earn some of my attention.

Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t see my self as a celebrity blogger or anything. But if this problem already happens with me, you can bet that it is much worse with the Seth Godins and Michael Arringtons out there.

If you want to have people’s attention, at the very minimum you need to be genuine and to treat them with respect.

It sounds like a disease: viral. Viral marketing. Yeeesh.

What it actually means is tossing out information into the world wide web for everyone to see.

Suppose it is a book. An ebook, if it is on the web. And it is free. Toss it out there. What happens? One person reads the book, and likes it. That person forwards it to two more people. One of those people forwards it to three more people, who forward it ....

That is viral marketing.

There are a lot of variations on the theme. It could be promoting almost anything. If that ebook promoted a new roofing system, it would likely link back to a website that described that new roofing system. Perhaps it links back too to the the manufacturer of that new roofing system. So, without spending a penny, that ebook could be out there, promoting the new roofing system to thousands of potential buyers.

And THAT is The Power of The Web. Cool.

Developing a network marketing email list begins with getting lots of traffic to your site, and there is just no better way than creating one way links. Here are a few suggestions for creating those links:

Post articles in article directories;
List site in web directories;
Respond to questions at Yahoo et al;
Post replies to others' blogs;
Have sites just recommend you.

One way links work a lot better than two way links. In the eyes of the SEs, it is like having another site recommend you, even though you placed the item. Personally I think way too much time is wasted on creating reciprocal links. Focus on those one way links and you will do fine.

Being very successful is doable for most sites. The formula is to build one page a day, and get one link a day. You can do this!
